Abarth & C. S.p.A. is an Italian racing and road-car maker with a performance division, founded in 1949. Alongside building and racing sports cars, it produced parts for companies including Fiat. In 1971 it was sold to Fiat but in 2007, Abarth was re-established as an independent unit, controlled 100% by Fiat Group Automobiles S.p.A., the subsidiary of Fiat S.p.A., producing and selling cars and light commercial vehicles.
The Abarth line up consists of the Abarth 697, the Abarth 595 & 695 and the Abarth 500e. Based on the Fiat 500 electric, the Abarth 500e is an electric 4-seater, reaching 0-62mph in 7.0 seconds, It's agile and engaging on bends, and is a great choice for drivers who like the styling of Fiat but want a bit more in terms of punchy performance.
Totally at home on B-roads or driving through suburbs where it can use its compact nature and honed responses to good advantage, the Abarth 500e is a bit of a chameleon; civilised and low-key when necessary but with the ability to bust out some speedy hothatch skills the second they’re called on.
The Abarth electric 500e comes as standard or in the form of the Abarth 500e Turismo, which includes additional features such as 18-inch alloy wheels and a wireless charging pad for your phone.
Being electric, it suits city drivers who want to drive an affordable, electric small car with plenty of welly; drivers who want a sustainable car that is still lots of fun. It’s free to tax up to 2025 or if you’re a company car driver you’re only going to have to pay two per cent Benefit in Kind (BIK) tax.
As you would expect, it isn’t the most spacious car for backseat passengers and only children will sit comfortably in the back where it should be noted there are only two seatbelts. Boot space, as you’d expect, is minimal at 185 litres.
