What's Road Safety Week?

Road Safety Week's an annual safety event that happens in the third week of November across the UK. It’s organised by the charity Brake and hundreds of schools, businesses and community groups take part in it.

This year's the 25th Road Safety Week and will focus on promoting safe roads for all road users including:

  • Cars
  • Buses
  • HGVs
  • Pedestrians
  • Cyclists and motorcyclists
  • Horse riders
  • Mobility vehicle and scooter users

Brake has been organising Road Safety Week since its inception in 1997 and over the years the campaign's highlighted various safety concerns and how we can combat these. Previous campaigns have included no need to speed, road heroes increasing awareness of safe practices around cyclists and much more.

Road safety for all

This year the campaign's hoping to raise awareness on safe road use for all road users, not just those in motor vehicles.

There are 3 main components to the campaign: thinking about how we can all use roads safely to protect ourselves and others, understanding how safe roads themselves can help the users have safe and healthy journeys and remembering crash victims, sharing their stories with a wider audience.

How can I get involved in Road Safety Week?

There are a number of ways that you can get involved in Road Safety Week if you’re interested in taking part as an individual or an organisation.

  • You can create social media posts and campaigns and get involved that way.
  • You can share your story with Brake or other road safety charities if you’ve been affected by a dangerous road event.
  • You can fundraise virtually and in person and donate the proceeds to Brake to help them.
  • You can spread awareness within your organisation with dedicated content and workshops.
  • You can follow our blogs this week that are packed with tips on staying safe and helping keep others safe on the roads.
