Ford has announced that the Fiesta is due to be dropped from their line up in the next year.
The Fiesta’s discontinuation was first announced by the Sun earlier this week with a rumour of the company deciding against producing an electric version and has since been confirmed by the company.
In an official statement Ford of Europe President Martin Sander said: “At Ford in Europe, we are accelerating our efforts to go all-in on electrification with our passenger vehicles being fully electric by 2030 – and all vehicles across our Ford portfolio by 2035. As we get ready to transition to an electric future, we will discontinue production of S-Max and Galaxy in Valencia, Spain in April 2023 and discontinue Fiesta production in Cologne, Germany by end of June 2023.”
This follows the announcement earlier in the year that another of their popular models, the Mondeo and Focus.

The move is an interesting development as it moves Ford away from some of their most popular affordable family cars and transition into newer EV models. It’s thought that the supply issues caused by Covid and the current Ukraine conflict have been contributing factors in the company’s acceleration of their shift to electric.
The first Fiesta was produced in Ford’s Dagenham plant in 1977 and it’s been sold continuously since then becoming the UK’s best-selling model of all time. In the past forty-five years the Fiesta has been through several generations and mid-model facelifts to keep the design fresh, technology up to date and customer requirements.
Today the Fiesta remains a popular choice with first time drivers, families and those looking for an affordable and reliable small hatchback. Ford won’t cease production until next year so you can still get a great lease deal on the Fiesta just head over to our Fiesta leasing page.
