Cupra is a relatively new brand, but they have already produced five exceptional models including the one we’re looking at today – the Curpa Born

As a standalone brand Cupra was established in 2018 but the moniker was applied to some of SEAT’s performance models before then. SEAT made the announcement in 2018 that they were creating a separate arm of the company that would focus on creating high performance, innovative models.

The Cupra name comes from an amalgamation of cup racing, as the models that received the Cupra badge were SEAT’s higher performance models which took inspiration from their motorsport models. This focus on driving experience is something the company has brought into all of the new models, including the Cupra Born.

The Cupra Born is a five-door five-seat electric hatchback that’s designed to provide a great driver experience, from the sporty looks that make you excited to get behind the wheel to the driver assistance systems that help with some of the more difficult and less interesting aspects of driving.

Cupra Born Electric

The Cupra Born is a fully electric model that was released to the UK market earlier this year and has been well received by drivers and critics alike. Winning the What Car? 2022 Best Small Electric Car award.

There are three battery sizes available, which means there are three different mileage ranges depending on the battery option you choose but the maximum range available is a whooping 335 miles. This puts it at a similar range to the Tesla Model 3 though they appeal to different drivers. The three battery sizes are 45 kWh, 58 kWh and 77 kWh with the smallest battery still offering an impressive 211 miles between charges.

For drivers that want a little more power Cupra are also offering an e-Boost option on the two larger engines, which pushes it up to 228 bhp and trimming the 0-62 mph tome to 6.6 seconds.

There are a few different specs available on the Born and a number of add on products that include great features like keyless entry, wireless smartphone charging and driver assistance systems.

Cupra Born Exterior

The Cupra Born is closely related to the Volkswagen ID.3 but there are some notable differences between the two, and it’s clear when you get behind the wheel that the Born is the sportier of the two.

It’s got an athletic appearance to it with a sharp short front end and copper coloured badges and trim details. There’s also bright LED headlights as standard and you can also use the auto dipping feature across the range.

Cupra Born Interior

On the interior you’ve got comfortable and spacious seats available for the driver and all four passengers, for your rear middle passenger there’s a little more leg room than in a lot of other models as it has a flat floor rather than a central tunnel that they have to straddle.

Instead of the traditional dials there’s a 5.3 inch screen behind the wheel which displays your speed, range and sat-nav instructions as well as the 12 inch infotainment screen in the centre of the dashboard, with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring.

There are a number of little touches like the touch sensitive sliders for temperature control, and steering wheel controls that can make it easier to operate. However, everything else is controlled from the central infotainment screen which some drivers can find distracting.
