We originally had the Audi Q6 e-tron as one of our top picks for this year, but it looks like we won’t be able to get behind the wheel of one until next year now.

There’s been no official announcement on why the release timeframe has moved or when the Q6 e-tron will go on sale but it’s expected to be towards the end of the year, so we’re looking at around another year at least before you’ll be able to drive one.

With that said, we still wanted to give you all the info on what we know so far about this exciting new car.

Audi’s electric vehicles (EVs) are known for having a long mileage range and it’s expected the Q6 e-tron will be no exception with a predicted range of over 370 miles. This range will put it with the likes of Polestar 2, Tesla Model X, Model 3 and the BMW i4.

We’ve seen the Q6 e-tron being tested in the standard body shape but more recently a Sportback version has been spotted being test driven. It’s also expected to be available as a SQ6 and RS Q6 version though this hasn’t yet been confirmed and we’ve not seen these models being tested yet.

Although we’ve yet to see much of the car design thanks to the camouflage wrapping we can see that the Sportback does retain a lot of similarities to the Q6 e-tron spotted earlier in the year, with a textured front grille, dual LED headlights and deep bumper cut outs.

The Q6 e-tron will sit between the Q4 e-tron and the e-tron SUV (though this will be renamed the Q8 e-tron at its mid-life refresh)  and is expected to be similar to the current Q5 in terms of overall size, making it a great choice for drivers who want a mid-sized SUV.

Audi have announced that this model will be using a new platform base with a PPE architecture which it shares with the upcoming fully electric Porsche Macan. This platform is based on an improved version of the J1 platform that currently underpins the e-tron GT four door and the Porsche Taycan and will have an 800 volt architecture making it capable of accepting super-fast DC charging at up to 350 kW.  This super-fast charging will allow drivers to recharge quickly while on the road minimising the impact of charging on long journeys making an EV less of an adjustment from the combustion engine.

It’s not yet been announced when the car will be available but we’ll keep you posted as we get more updates!
